Hello IT department! Oh my phones not ringing

September 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Ok so I’m having a quite day at work. I’ve cought up on my work back log and the phone hasn’t rang since 9.30 with a problem.

What the problem, relax, take it easy, chill and embrace the tranquality of you life. HELL NO.
Right now I running about a million possible problem through my head. The reason for this is that its 2 day before I take some well need annaul leave, and after woking in IT for nearly 8 years I’ve learn that this is the time when the worst problems can occour.

So I’ve changed the backup tape, check the health of the servers, and all seems fine. Citirx terminals appears to be working, Printers are fine, users are happy (well as happy as they ever are!)
WTF is about to go wrong?
This is worse then being in hounted house and all the screeming has stop and you can only hear the sound of your heart.

Summer

September 3, 2008 · 1 Comment

Ok this has be to worst summer I can remember.  Normally you get a few days where you can get out an about or even sort things out around your house, but not this year it was a total let down.
I was holding out for a some good weather in Setpember when the kids went back to school, but its got worse.

I watched  the crow resently, and Brandon Lee said it cant rain all the time.  Obviously he’d never been to Northern Ireland or the rest of the UK (when he was alive).

Microsoft Plan for VISTA

August 5, 2008 · 2 Comments

Ok, any one who has been exposed to computer in the last two years will know that Microsoft has very unsucsessfully tryed to launch its next generation of Operation System, Windows Vista.

So this was Microsoft orignal plan.  People need a new OS and will flock to it.

This was the IT industrays responce to Vista, no thanks. It looks shiny and new but its a pill of steeming dog poo. The general public went Do I really need this? I dont really like it.

So Microsoft then came up with Plan B.  We will keep XP alive as long as it take to get everyone on borad with Vista. Maybe a few months.

IT industry breath a sigh of releave a few more years of XP thank GOD. Home users Yeah told you Microsoft would listen.

Microsoft come up with Plan C. ”We’ve had enought of this no more XP force everyone to go to Vista.” Through teddy out pram and spit out the dummy, go screaming to BIll G.  “Those nastly people dont want my new shiny version of windows that we think they realy realy realy need”. Bill G ” I dont care not my prolbem Steve”.

Steve tells everyone “Tought You will adopt teh b”£%&^d child Vista or die. Marketing get this sorted now”

Microsoft market departmet “Lets make up some facts.  Vista is good the public will beleive that want they.”

Back in the real world “OH NO WE WONT”

Marketing “hears more bullshit to swallow”

Real world “no thinks we want XP it was trusted, good and starble.  Plus it didn’t coast me the world to get a computer it will run on”

Marketing “But Vista will run on you old computer”

Real world ” OH no it bloody wont”.

Marketing” Tought you have no choice XP is dead, we killed it off and you have to live with that.  We Win”

So that was how vista come to the world.

Microsoft honstly beleive that we are chumps that will buy there crap.  I’ve been involded with Computers for over 10 years now and remember something like this before call “WINDOWS ME”  basically a completatly f*&%$d version of Windows 98 second edition.  But unlike the current top brass and marketing team at Microsoft they let ME disapear with a quite sealing of the dungon door.  Now of the YOU WILL LIKE OUR NEW OPERATION SYSTEM crap that come with Vista.  ME just got locked in the dungon and never mention again.

So my questoin is this.  If Microsoft exc’s have been saying we will never make the same mistakes again with an OS, why did they not just lock Vista in the dungon and let it die until they lunched Windows 7????

People must think I’ve a drink Problem

February 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

OK so as I said I’m leave my curent post, and everyone is upset(ok they tell my there sad I’m leaveing),  so today we all stop for coffee and I’m given a leaving card and few present, in amoungst the present is a bottle of Southern, which on top of what one of our colo office gave me (a bottle of wine) make me start to think that everyone thinks I like a drink.

But that got me thinking.  Does everyone in the IT industry enjoy a bottle or five of booze every once week???  The reason for asking is that most all my friends enjoy drinking to some extent.

SO the question is Do computer drive you to drink?????

Your overconfidence is your weakness

November 13, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Yes that’s right, Return of the Jedi was on TV on sunday and I got to watch it with out a fight from Lynsey as it was my birthday.  Well that was the plan and it sort of worked until the whole, whos he?? how did he a kid that killed him??  what the hell is going on I dont understand??? The last one was far better!  That was until I explained that they last star wars movie’s where prequils.  Then it all made sence.
That aside, I had a great day of nothingness, and I dont fell any older.

It was great watching the last of the star wars movie, how good triumps over evil, the whole Anikan was never truley evil, etc. But the lets face it I was watching it for the lightsaber fights and wishing I was a jedi.

how cool would it be to be a jedi??  Personally I would be on the edge of the light and dark side, like my chactor in Jedi Accadimy.

Just waving your fingures at the bar man, and saying “This is not the money you are lookign for”.

offline for a while

July 13, 2007 · Leave a Comment

So I’ve been offline for while, not my fault.  At work we had to move offices, sounds easy.  To be fair it was, the removel men did most of the work and everything went accounding to plan.  Then BT and to move the phone lines and ADSL onto the phone line, but being bt they made a mess of it.  They didn’t move the ADSL and eveyone in work is on my case “when can  I get internet” etc.

If that wasn’t bad enough my router at home gave up the gost.

appart from that I’ve done nothing this week

Pull of Bradford

June 8, 2007 · 2 Comments

You might not beleive it or not but Bradford (West Yorkshire) has a very strang pull on people. And it is starting to call me again.

Resently I have found my thoughts taking me back to my first year at uni.  I dont know what though.  It’s only be over the last month or so this has started to happen.

I have always missed the people I meet at uni, or at least the ones who ment anything to me.  Most Septemebers I start to get a bit down as I realize that another year has gone past and the memories of that first few weeks of uni and starting my life again come rushings back to me, the excitment of meeting new people, finding out that their were other people who shared my interest.

So why is this happening??  Theres a few reason for this.

1) I’m starting to think about my stagg do.  And it will probably be the frist time that my mates for home and uni mix with each other.

2) Next year it will be 10 years since we all meet up and had plans of taking over the world.

3) Alough I’m happly live in Northern Ireland and Happy I’m going to marry Lynsey, I miss everyone from uni halls, my course and from the bar i worked in.

Dont get me wrong I dont regreat any decission I have made but I sometimes wonder what life would be like if I hadn’t left Bradford.
They say everything happens for a reason and leaving Bradford was how I meet Lynsey and with out a dout the best thing that has happened to me.

I know it not a million miles way, and it cheat enough to get there, but there are time it fells like it.
