Hitman

June 27, 2007 · 5 Comments

One be best shotter games of all time.  I loved this game when it first came out it brought new demintion to gaming. at the same time out came progect IGI again a very got game but short lived.

So why blog about a game that is nearly 6 years old.  Because I got paied at the weekend (nothing new there it happens once every month) and I was conviced (by lynses, not that it took much) to buy Hitman Tripple hit pack, containing, Hitman 2, Contracts and Bloodmoney.

I start to play Hitman 2.  The open is screen is just a recap on how you ended the first game (a nice touch as some people would not have played the first) and starts the plot to the second.  I had forgot how good it was to play agent 47, but about about 10 minute of gameing it was great.  TBH I love to game, it hasn’t aged at all the graphics are sweet and alough i’ve only had a hour gaming on it its making me want to play the first one again.

Although I dont think I’ll man a good hitman as I just want to wast anyone who movies, and its kinda getting me noticed when try to kill a russian mob boss and ex-KGB generals, but all in all its the best game I’ve played in a while.  TBH its the only new game I’ve bought and played in a lot time as well.

So when I get a chance I’ll be trying to become a better hit man.

not usually my style of game

May 23, 2007 · 2 Comments

Normaly I play F.P.S style games, see someone, fire off a fee shots and the drop down.  I also like Street Fighter (but what geeks doesn’t) and need for speed range, thats pritty much it.  OR so I thought.

About a year ago when Bytey and Andrea were over getting very very drunk with my and lyn’s, Bytey introduced me to Gutior Hero.  I was a bit reluctant to play it, after playing the PS2 eye games and really finding them shit to be honist.  But Bytey really want the gutior controler and he bough the box set inculding the game.  So in true geek style we get back to mine down a few beers and start to rock out on it.

Turns out its an amazing game and i had to get the gutior contorller for myself.  Fast forward about 6 months and we got to a joint birthday weekend in Dundrum (near Newcastle Co. Down)  a few beers and a couple of us start to play and its really good fun.

This weekend is another joint birthday thing again and one of Lyn’s friends has got both gutior hero and hero2 with the controller.  Luckly she also has a PS2 and both games are on that format, so it looks like another beer drinking Gutior Hero rocking weekend.

I’ve been getting in some practice and I totaly love the game.

Thanks to Bytey I now want to be a rock god.  But I cant sing so I dont think that will ever happen

Computer Games

May 22, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Maybe it just me, but are computer games developers paying less and less attention to PC games and more the the XBOX 360, PS3 and Wii???

Why do I ask i hear you all cry.  Its simple, for the last two years or so there is has been no real kick ass PC games.

Granted Quake 4 had a fantastic plot, graphics and kick as evil guys to kill, and then there was Republic commando, loved that game and of course the latest in the HIT MAN saga. But that about it.

Even the local Game shop has droped off on its PC selection of game.  At one stage it had nearly the whole shop deadicated to the PC games now it only has a third of a wall, the rest is split between the 360, Wii, ps2 and PS3 with again a third of wall deadicated to the DS.

I think the reason for this is simple, with a console the graphic software is customized to get the best performance with what the console has.  But with the PC if you want console still graphics you’ve got to spend at least £150 on a decient graphics card and they keep changing the specs for the game to run at best quality.

Lets look at a bit of console history.  In the 80’s and earily 90’s there where very few console, Nintendo, Sega, Jaguar and Neo Geo.  The later two not meany people could aford and they disappear. But Nintendo and Sega Battled it out and eventualy both sega and Nintendo bout droped out the console market but Nintendo stayed in the hand held market thanks to the Playboy.

PC games started well and as technology incressed so did the games.  mid 90’s see the console renasons with PlayStation, XBOX, PS2 etc.  In the 2000’s we start to see more and more people move to console gaming which brings me back to the start.

Will game developers get tired of the console market and start to trough more into PC game again.  Sadly I think not.  They will develop games in tandom, but I think the console will ultimatly win is one.

Back when I started uni (98) the interent was still a baby and have a 56k modem was the dogs, there was a fantaic game called quake 2.

Now I know what a network game session was and had only be involved in a few gaming sessions on quake much fun was had.   Back to the point when I started uni and there was a room for teh people in my course to chill, being geeks (and proide) we started to have network games of Q2.

Well Bytey was a master, you would be chasing him around a map he would let off a rock, jump and land behind you and hit you with a second.  I was nast, evil stuff.   Naturaly well tried and somethings it worked but most of the time i just blow myself up.

The point. I was gaming online, CS and thougt that windows to high to jump into from here, so I throught a granade and just the rocket jump prinsaples. It work at least I seen my body fly throught the window but I had to die.
As I result i have lead two things, never try to rocket jump and nothing beets the games where you cah

DOOM

May 8, 2007 · 3 Comments

OK I remember the original game, and at age 13 it scared the crap out of me.  But now its dated, funny and the standard that all FPS should achieve in user base and originality.  Fast forward 12 years, DOOM 3.

Graphics have moved on and my god ID did it again.  DOOM 3 was mind blowing, not as fast paced as the original, but the plot in the game was great.  Bytey cant play it without anyone in the room which is an achievement for a hardcore gamer, (it’s the babies apparently) I think he’s just a big softy really.
Ok on the success of the game some decied to make it into a movie. How do you make a movie about a mindless violent computer game. Well they did, the gave it a plot, the devil is replaced by a 24th gene that hunts the evil in people. OK ID did have a soul thing in the game that killed everything on screen, nearly the same thing.
So from this comes the mindless senseless violence and my god how good did the BFG look. The First Person Shoot scene is great and a major nod to the adrenalin bust when you get the demon power up.
Its not the greatest movie ever but as far as game to movies go its not the worst (SuperMario Brothers) but its no tomb raider.
If you consider yourself a gamer or just loved the original get the movie out or buy it on DVD.
