On Firday I had tickets to see Ireland play Italy at Ravenhill Park in belfast. It was the first time in 57 year that Ireland had played at Ulsters home Ground. So tickets where like hens teeth. Infact gold dust was easier to get hold of.
Lysney, Carolin, Mathew and myself arrived at Ravenhill about 6.30pm an hour before the game kicked off. We got park in the High school just behind the grounds thanks to Mathew scoring a parking pass from work, this saved having to work for miles and we got in really quickly. So 30 seconds after leaving the car we where in the grounds and making our way to the tempary stand. We get to see to Irish team worm up and were about 5 feet way from them.
Still having 1/4 hour to kill we thought we would get some beer in and take them to seat and then joy the last of the days sun. How wrong we where, as it was a temporary stand (a few houndred seats on some pritty strong scafolding) we werent aloughed beer on the stand, so we drank them bay the game, poor Mathew had to down 3 guinness (or guiniee as mathew called them).
7.15 we took our seats and weight for the game to begin. We where behine the post so the seats whern’t be the best in the world but they where the only one I could get. There wasn’t an empty seat at Ravenhill. 7.30 the game kicks off and Italy are playing with the wind in their favour. It should have been a game to remember but its was a exciting as watching paint dry. A penilties for both teams opened the scoring and Ireland won the ball form a lineout in there own 22 and strarted a major run, they score a fantasic try, but the reff blow up for a penilty to Italy for some stupid reason. Look like a good strat by Ireland, but how wrong I was, Irealnd got a lucky try in the last 10 of the first half, then Italy got a try in the second and they opened up a bit of lead which they held until the last minutes of the added time the second half, when O’Garra when over for a try and converted it to leave the final score 23-20 to Ireland.
To be honest I had started to leave about 2 minutes before Ireland socred as it look to be all over, I was just getting to the end of the stand when O’Gara when over for the try. It was one of the slowest games of rugby I’ve seen or played in.
I know that Ireland didn’t have Brian O’driscal or Shaine Horgan playing due to injory but my god, I was a disapointing game.
I honest dont now how Ireland are going to do anying in the world cup (which kicks off in a about 10 days time) if they play the way they have been for the last few games, a lost to Scotland (one of the worst times in the northern hemispher) and a slopy win over Italy again not a great team.
I would love to know what has happened to Ireland after the 6 nations it was Ireland could get to the semi, or even the final this year, but now we will be luck to get out of the qualifing stagest as we have Italy, France and Argentina in our group. Personally I think its the hards group of the world cup.
Dont get we wrong I support Ireland all the way, I just dont understand how they could have played so badly against a team that 3 years ago could only bet scotland.
